It’s the ideal after-treatment for JENOLITE Rust Remover products and can also serve as a pre-treatment before painting or coating.

4. How do I prepare the surface?

• Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, paint, or loose rust.
• Remove rust or flaking material with steel wool or a wire brush.
• For best results, use after treating the surface with JENOLITE Rust Remover.

5. How do I apply the lacquer?

1. Shake the can thoroughly until the agitator ball rattles.
2. Spray smooth, even strokes from 15–30 cm away.
3. Apply 2–3 thin coats, allowing 15 minutes between each.
4. Let dry for 24 hours before handling or exposing to moisture.

6. How long does it take to dry?

The lacquer is touch-dry in around 15–20 minutes and fully cured in 24 hours depending on temperature and humidity.

7. How much coverage can I expect?

A single aerosol can typically covers approximately 2–3 square metres, depending on surface type and application thickness.

8. Can I use it on hot or warm surfaces?

No. Always apply to a cool surface for best adhesion and finish.

9. Can I use it indoors?

Yes — but only in a well-ventilated area. The product contains solvents that should not be inhaled in enclosed spaces.

10. Can I paint over JENOLITE Rust Shield?

No. Once cured, the lacquer forms a sealed, non-paintable layer designed to preserve the natural finish of the metal.

Yes. The clear lacquer protects without dulling or discolouring polished or chrome finishes.

16. Can it be used on non-metal surfaces?

It’s designed for metal, but can also be used on certain metal-coated or metallic-painted surfaces. Always test a small area first for compatibility.

17. Does it yellow or change colour over time?

No — the advanced, UV-stable formulation resists yellowing, ensuring a long-lasting clear finish.

18. Is JENOLITE Rust Shield environmentally friendly?

The aerosol is solvent-based, so proper disposal is required. However, it’s free from lead and CFCs, and the can is recyclable when empty.

1. Apply directly to a cool surface
Remove all traces of oil or grease. Remove old paint and loose rust with steel wool or wire brush. Shake the can well before use so that the agitator ball can be heard rattling. Spray in smooth strokes from 15-30cm away. Coat the surface with a thin and even layer.

2. Repeat the process
Repeat the process 2-3 times for maximum protection, allowing 15 minutes drying time between each coat. Leave to dry for 24 hours before using.

3. Storage & Reuse
To prevent blockages, invert the can after use and spray for 2 seconds. This aerosol should be stored out of direct sunlight, in a cool well ventilated place. Consult the safety data sheet for more information.
